India-China dispute live updates: PUBG among 118 mobile applications banned by government
- This is not the first ban considering the government banned a slew of apps in the first banwave
- The second banwave saw the govt banning the clones of the apps it had already banned
In a major move, the Ministry of Information and Technology has banned PUBG Mobile and 118 other mobile applications. This is the third banwave that has hit the app industry after the government made similar moves in the past.
In a statement by the Ministry, "This move will safeguard the interests of crores of Indian mobile and internet users. This decision is a targeted move to ensure safety, security and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace."
The statement explained that there were a number of complaints which were received from various sources and included reports about the misuse of mobile apps which were available on Android and iOS platforms. The complaints talked about stealing and transferring user data in an unauthorised manner to servers which were located outside of India.
